In 2005, he was selected as the U.S. Air Force F-4 Heritage Flight pilot, a role highlighting both his skill and deep connection to aviation history. He retired from active duty in February 2006.

Today, Jive remains a prominent figure on the airshow circuit, performing in a variety of aircraft including the RV-8A “Wild Blue,” the T-28 “MadDog” with the Trojan Thunder Air Show Team, and the L-39 “Ivan” as part of Team Race 11. A highly respected aerobatic professional, Jive holds a Surface-Level Statement of Aerobatic Competency (SAC) for both solo and formation flying. He also serves as a Certified Aerobatic Competency Evaluator (ACE) through the International Council of Air Shows, helping ensure safety and excellence across the industry.

Jive is also a competitive jet racer, regularly participating in the National Championship Air Races in Reno and now Roswell, New Mexico. Flying his L-39C “Ivan” in the Jet Class, he earned a 3rd-place finish in 2025. He currently serves as President and Board Member of Racing Jets Inc., the organization that governs and advances jet racing competition.

Whether flying high-performance fighters, mentoring fellow pilots, or leading within the aviation community, Jerry “Jive” Kirby exemplifies the skill, leadership, and passion that define a lifetime dedicated to flight.
